Deprecation of the "KPM" Klarna integration

The old Klarna integration ("KPM") won't be supported by Klarna anymore as of the 30th of September 2020.

Klarna's newest integration type, also called "Klarna Payments" (KP), will be the platform that merchant's can use when integrating with Klarna through Adyen. On this platform, the following two integration types are supported:

  1. RedirectThe shopper is redirected to Klarna to complete the payment.
  2. WidgetThe shopper completes the payment in your checkout. For more information about the Klarna widget, refer to the Klarna documentation(Note: this is only available if you use our API only integration)

To see in which countries Klarna will be supported on the new integration, please refer to our documentation to see the overview of all countries for each Klarna product variant.

The technical changes that you need to make depend on the type of integration that you are on. Please find below the changes that need to be made per integration type:

  Integration type More information

Classic API

The new Klarna integration will not be supported on the Classic API integration. If you would like to use Klarna as a payment method, then you will need to change your integration and switch to our Checkout API integration.

More information on this can be found here. More information on how to set up Klarna specifically can be found here.
Hosted Payment Pages

The Hosted Payment Page integration also supports the new Klarna integration. No additional development changes need to be made, because the information in the request remains the same. However, we generally advise you to test the new integration first in your test account before switching it on in your live account. Note: the HPP integration through our skins is not supported because this payment method requires open invoice lines which are not created on skins.

More information can be found here. Please have a look at the shopper information that needs to be included in the request body.
Checkout SDK

The Checkout SDK integration also supports the new Klarna integration. No additional development changes need to be made, because the information in the request remains the same. However, we generally advise you to test the new integration first in your test account before switching it on in your live account.

More information can be found here. Please have a look at the shopper information that needs to be included in the request body.

Checkout (Drop-in/Components/API)

This is our newest integration type and supports the new Klarna integration. However, we do always advise merchants to first perform test payments in the test environment before switching to the new platform in live to ensure a smooth transition.

Plugin

All of our plugins support the new Klarna integration. However, please make sure to check the version that your plugin is running on because the older versions do not support the new Klarna integration.
